DALLAS — Ever since Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving has been rocking his Anta KAI 1 ‘Chief Hélà' shoe, which pays tribute to his Native American heritage.
The shoe features a mocassin-like design with a unique fringe detail on the back of the shoes. The name of the shoe matches the title of his X profile, Chief Hélà, which comes from Irving's Lakota name and translates to Little Mountain. Irving was given the name by the Standing Rock Sioux tribe in 2018.
Irving also signs all his posts on X with "Hélà."
Irving signed a five-year shoe deal with Anta, a Chinese sportswear company, back in July 2023. Just before the NBA Finals began, Irving signed his father, Dederick Irving, to the Anta shoe line, as well. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Drederick Irving will be released in Foot Locker stores in September.
