Dallas mayor, police chief pay up for bets lost during Stars-Oilers Western Conference Final

A bet is a bet, these city officials made sure to pay up after the Dallas Stars fell short to the Edmonton Oilers.

DALLAS — You can't win them all, and that's especially true if you consider yourself a gambler.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson understands that these days, as he's found himself on the losing end of a friendly wager he made with Mayor of Edmonton Amarjeet Sohi on the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Prior to the NHL's 2024 Western Conference Final, Johnson and Sohi agreed that the losing city's mayor would have to send a video wishing the opposing team luck in the Stanley Cup Final while wearing one of their jerseys -- or sweaters, as hockey fans say.

Since the Stars ended up losing the series 4-2 to the Oilers, Johnson had to pay up for his part of the bet -- a deal he made good on Friday.

In addition to the mayoral battle, Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia lost his similar bet with the Edmonton Police Department.

Currently, Mayor Johnson has a wager with Boston Mayor Michelle Wu for the Mavs-Celtics NBA Finals series.

If Boston wins, Johnson will be sending Wu a whole brisket, a rack of beef ribs and a dozen sausage links from Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum. If the Mavs win, Wu will send Johnson 18 gallons of clam chowder and 18 pounds of lobster rolls from Legal Sea Foods.
