Weather shelter to open overnight in Downtown Dallas amid cold front

The shelter will open at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and close at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

DALLAS — A temporary shelter will open Tuesday evening due to expected inclement weather, according to city officials.

The shelter, which will be at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, will open at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and will close around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A strong cold front is expected to move through North Texas which will cause temperatures to fall into the 40s by Tuesday afternoon.  

Around midnight, a mix of rain transitioning to sleet and snow will move into the western parts of North Texas.

Then, during the early morning hours Wednesday, a wintry mix will creep slowly eastward, reaching the western parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area by around 5 to 7 a.m.
