PLANO, Texas — FEMA opened its latest Disaster Recover Center in Plano in response to severe storms that swept through North Texas in May.

The center is the latest of several locations to open in Denton, Dallas and Collin counties. The center, located at 4800 Preston Park Boulevard in Plano, will help residents apply for federal assistance. The location will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Residents affected by severe storms and flooding between April 26 and June 5 are eligible to apply for assistance anytime before July 16, 2024.

FEMA may be able to help affected residents with personal property losses, home repairs, displacement costs, transportation, medical costs and funeral costs, according to a press release from the city of Plano.

At the center, staff will guide applicants through the process and residents can request interpreters and accommodations to ensure a smooth application process, according to the release.

Applications for assistance are also available online and through FEMA's helpline at 800-621-3362  between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
