Here's a look at the forecast for this week into early next week:

Quick Facts:

  • Arctic air has returned
  • Cold through the weekend
  • Rain, not snow, returns next week

Finally above freezing!

DFW Airport warmed above freezing at noon on Wednesday for the first time since last Saturday evening. When you add it up, that's 89 hours spent at or below freezing. Nowhere close to a record, but certainly long enough to cause problems.

Late Week Cold Air

A second blast of arctic has moved into the area overnight. Temps will be well below normal for January. It won't be as cold as earlier in the week and it won't last nearly as long, but it will get cold. Lows will be in the 20s and teens with even lower wind chills Friday and Saturday mornings. Highs likely stay in the 30s on Friday, Saturday, and possibly Sunday.

Rain Returns

A rainy pattern sets up next week. Southerly winds help transport moisture from the Gulf. A few disturbances will move over North Texas next week which means there will be a chance for rain every day Monday through Friday with Monday through Wednesday looking the rainiest during that time. The first round moves in late Sunday into Monday followed by more rounds of rain the following days. It won't be a washout every day, but it looks like it'll bring decent rain totals. Generally, parts of North Texas could pick up about two inches of rain next week.

Important note:

The following week does not look wintry as rain moves through when temps are above freezing.
