Tips on staying safe during Halloween for kids and adults

Save the spooky stuff for the festivities! Do your part to look out for each other on and off the roads in North Texas this week.

DALLAS — When it comes to the costumes and décor, y'all can keep it spooky. But we need to keep it safe on the roads here in North Texas as people get ready for Halloween and the celebrations that come with it.

A few tips for drivers who may be out in the evening..

Of course, be on alert for trick-or-treaters! Slow down and scan the road.

Be prepared to check for people in areas you may not expect. That means being prepared to stop and allow them to pass.

And a rule you should follow every time you drive – but especially this week with little ones out and about – stay off of your phone! The road needs all of your attention, all of the time.

For parents, and really everyone trick-or-treating, always use sidewalks and crosswalks when those are available.

Try a buddy system to get each other home safely and prevent anyone from walking alone.

It's not just the children's safety to think about this holiday. Adults need to be mindful of getting home safely from their own festivities too!

For hosts, make sure to serve as much food as you are alcoholic beverages for a good balance.

If you need to, collect car keys or make accommodations beforehand for guests who are drinking!

We can't wait to see all of your creative costumes! Keep these tips in mind as you get ready to dress up and head out.
