FORT WORTH, Texas — TCU women's basketball told WFAA's partners with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that graduate transfer student Sedona Prince's "status as an active member on the team is intact” amid a growing petition to have her removed from the team.
The petition, which had nearly 170,000 signatures as of this writing, was started to try and get the university to remove Prince from the team because of allegations of physical and verbal abuse by her ex-girlfriend, who posted the accusations on TikTok to her profile of over 800,000 followers.
In a 10-part series, Prince's ex-girlfriend, Olivia Stabile, recapped a recent trip to Mexico for Prince's birthday. In the videos, Stabile alleges Prince pushed her off a four-wheel ATV and left her stranded in the jungle outside of their resort in Mexico. Stabile claims that when Prince returned, she flipped the vehicle on its side and pushed Stabile when she tried to offer aid.
Prince responded to the allegations, the Star-Telegram reported, denouncing some personal attacks she had received since the video series was posted.
“The amount of hate, bullying, and death threats that my family, friends, and I have been receiving is dangerous, irresponsible, and disturbing,” the 24-year-old said in a statement. “There is so much judgment and scrutinization by many from afar, with opinions and verbal attacks on stories with false narratives and inaccurate information that do not give honesty and transparency.... As I continue to take some time off and continue to focus on my well-being, health, and commitments, I sincerely want nothing but the best for everyone, especially those I was able to share my life within a relationship.”
Prince said at the end of the statement she would have no further comment on the matter and would let her legal counsel speak for her moving forward, according to the Star-Telegram. Prince's statement seems to have since been deleted from her social media. The last social media posts date back to Aug. 13 on her Instagram, April 10 on her X and July 4 on her TikTok.
Prince was the first in a slew of big name transfers to come to TCU's program under head coach Mark Campbell. The Horned Frogs started out extremely hot in the 2023-24 season, winning 14 games in a row and breaking the top 25 for the first time since 2020. Then, the team became riddled with injuries, including Prince, which derailed their season after needing to hold walk-on tryouts to simply put a team on the court. TCU went on to lose 11 of their next 12 games, including two forfeited games, before the team started getting its injured players back.
In April, Prince announced she was granted one final year of eligibility. Prince initially committed to the University of Texas out of high school, but sat out after she sustained a broken leg whole competing for Team USA U-18 at the FIBA Americas Championship. Prince transferred from Texas to Oregon, where she played four seasons for the Ducks. Prince played under Campbell at Oregon, which played a role in her decision to transfer to TCU after Campbell was hired as the Horned Frogs head coach.
