SMU flags are run across the field during a time out in the second half of an NCAA college game against TCU on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, in Dallas.

DALLAS — If you're from Dallas-Fort Worth, you probably know about the "Iron Skillet Battle" between TCU and SMU, who play each other annually.

Well, this is their second to last matchup for the foreseeable future and this rendition of the Iron Skillet is set to be piping hot -- literally.

Temps are expected to reach 97° on Saturday with a heat index of 102°.

Because the game kicks off at 4 p.m., fans will surely feel the effects of these high temps while in the stands of Gerald J. Ford Stadium.

To help fight the heat, SMU is going to hand out 10,000 free waters to fans entering the stadium through Gates 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8. Hand fans will be distributed to fans at Gates 1, 3 and 5.

SMU said vendors will have an additional 30,000 waters for sale -- and 32,000 beers for those looking for something with an extra kick.

According to the university, these additional waters represent a 72% increase in water on site from last season.

If you are someone who likes to come prepared, SMU said fans are allowed to bring in one unopened or empty water bottle into the stadium as there will be filling stations available.

And if it gets entirely too hot for you, SMU said you'll be able to escape the heat by going to its "Comfort Zone" in Heritage Hall in the Loyd All Sports Center in the northwest corner of the stadium.
