DENTON, Texas — There's hype surrounding the North Texas Mean Green's start to the 2024 season.
So much so, they've secured their first home game on ESPN2 in over a decade, according to the university's athletic director. North Texas will host American Athletic Conference foe, Tulane (5-2, 3-1), on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT. UNT's Athletic Director, Jared Mosley, urged everyone to come out and enjoy the game or flip it on your television.
The Mean Green's bout with the Green Wave comes after a high-scoring shootout with Memphis (6-1, 4-0), where UNT led early in the fourth quarter but ultimately suffered their second loss of the season, 52-44.
It's homecoming! Light the fire!
It is also North Texas' homecoming game, which means the school will light its annual homecoming bonfire. The tradition dates back to 1935 and has been observed every year except from 1943-1945 due to the number of men serving in WWII.
Since 1960, the building of the bonfire has been entrusted to the Talons, UNT's student spirit organization. Talons spend all week building what they claim is the largest man-made pallet fire in the U.S.
The bonfire is UNT's biggest tradition, and students and alumni will be able to participate on Friday night. The event was initially set to take place Thursday but was rescheduled due to wind conditions.
Tickets for the game are still available for as low as $20, for those who wish to attend.
