DALLAS — Jim Schlossnagle lost the College World Series to the Tennessee Volunteers and was asked about his future at Texas A&M when UT's former head coach, David Pierce, was fired earlier that same day.
It was a tough, but necessary question to ask given Schlossnagle's decade-long relationship to UT Athletic Director Chris Del Conte, who both worked together at TCU. Schlossnagle fired back at the reporter who asked him the question, calling it "selfish" followed by a 35-second diatribe about not leaving the Aggies.
The Aggies fanbase was loud and proud online – their guy adamantly rejected on camera any possibility of going to that team.
And then ... Tuesday's talk of the Internet dropped: Jim Schlossnagle accepted the job to become the University of Texas baseball coach – a complete 180-degree shift from his public comments.
The reaction that ensued was ... popcorn worthy.
Schlossnagle will be introduced as Texas' head coach at a press conference at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. It'll be streamed live on TexasSports.com.
