Will Texas A&M's baseball coach ditch the Aggies for the Longhorns? He wasn't happy with the question after losing CWS

Despite his displeasure with the question, Jim Schlossnagle does have one significant tie to the Texas Longhorns.

OMAHA, Neb. — The Texas A&M Aggies lost back-to-back games in the College World Series to the Tennessee Volunteers and missed out on a national championship.

To make things even more uncomfortable, the Aggies coach Jim Schlossnagle, who came to Texas A&M from TCU in 2022, was asked about his future after UT Longhorns head coach David Pierce was fired earlier that same day.

"With the rumors speculating about a specific job opening, what do you have to say about your future in Aggieland," Richard Zane of TexAgs asked.

Schlossnagle did not take kindly to the question. Here was his response:

"I think it's pretty selfish of you to ask me that question to be honest with you," Schlossnagle said. "I left my family to become the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again and that hasn't changed in my mind."

Despite his displeasure with the question, there is a significant tie to the Texas Longhorns, which warrants it being asked. Schlossnagle spent the majority of his coaching career at TCU (18 years out of 22), and nine of those 18 seasons with the Horned Frogs were under athletic director Chris Del Conte, who is now the athletic director of the Texas Longhorns.

Del Conte left TCU to be UT's athletic director in 2017.

In his three seasons, Schlossnagle has led the Aggies to two College World Series appearances (2022, 2024). His coaching record at Texas A&M is 135-62 (.685). The Longhorns are coming off a 36-24 season.

The Aggie faithful won't have to worry about their skipper burning them for burnt orange, at least if you take his word for gospel.

"I understand you got to ask the question, but I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job and I've poured every ounce of my soul in this job. I've given this job every single ounce I can give it. Write that," Schlossnagle concluded before leaving the podium.
