IRVING, Texas — In addition to airing every game of the 2024 NBA Finals on our station, WFAA is also hosting a special presentation called "The Pregame" before each and every matchup in the series. Head here for more information.
It's not the time or place to back anything Boston in Dallas, so one sports bar and restaurant decided to temporarily rename itself.
"Corporate definitely came up with the plan," Boston's Pizza General Manager Jason Battle told WFAA.
"Immediately, we were like this is an easy sell."
Boston's Pizza, which has three North Texas locations, has been renamed, for now, to 'Dallas Pizza.'
"When you come in you will be greeted with, 'Welcome to Dallas Pizza," Battle explained.
"Dallas is an amazing sports town with very passionate fans," Director of Marketing Julie Schaffner said. "We’re proud of our brand, but we’re even more proud of our Mavericks."
The Boston brand isn’t entirely erased from “Dallas Pizza” though (there's still a Larry Bird jersey hanging from the wall.)
But any 'less' Boston is welcomed by customers.
"I noticed the sign changing it from Boston’s Pizza, which is not good, to Dallas Pizza," regular Ashish Bansal said.
"I loved it, I loved it. Gotta have Dallas pride!"
The company also rebranded its signature 'Spicy Texan' pie as the 'Spicy Maverick.'
Mavs fan customers, as you might imagine, don’t feel the need for the names to switch back.
"Hopefully it permanently sticks," Bansal said.
But when basketball is over, business will have to go on as normal.
"Yes, the name will change back after the series," Battle laughed. "We will go back to Boston’s pizza, but for the time being it’s Dallas."
"Dallas Pizza" will be hosting folks to watch Game 3 on Wednesday.
Here's a list of bars and restaurants that will have the game.
