PHOENIX — Big time players make big time plays in big time games.
Corey Seager – dubbed the "Cookie Monster" by David Ortiz on the FOX broadcast – proved that in spades. Seager, the Rangers All-Star shortstop, was awarded the 2023 World Series MVP. It was the second time he's won the accolade in his career after claiming the title in 2020 when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In the series, Seager crushed three homers in five games, including the clutch game-tying two-run shot in Game 1 and the hardest hit home run in World Series history in Game 3.
He becomes just the second player to win World Series MVP awards for two different teams, joining Reggie Jackson (Athletics and Yankees).
In the World Series, Seager batted .286, hit three home runs and batted in six runs.
"It's truly incredible to have this group behind us," Seager said after being awarded his second MVP. "To be world champs, now, it's crazy."
The World Series win is first piece of hardware in the team's 62-year history – a championship drought that had pre-dated the team's move to Arlington in 1972 and went all the way back to its introduction into the league as the expansion Washington Senators in 1961.
