GRAPEVINE, Texas — Newly-minted U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau might have been born and raised in California, but he's pretty well known as a North Texan at this point. He played collegiately at SMU (where he won the U.S. Amateur) and stayed in Dallas as his professional career got underway.

But for the casual North Texas golf fan, it might have been a surprise over the weekend to see DeChambeau's city of residence listed on the U.S. Open tee sheet.

It wasn't Dallas. It was Grapevine.

DeChambeau is apparently a Tarrant County resident these days.

DeChambeau, who held off Rory McIlroy with a stunning bunker shot and par save on the 18th hole Sunday, has reportedly been building a North Texas dream home for several years. And now that dream seems to have come to fruition.

Not only was DeChambeau's home city listed as Grapevine, the North Texas suburb, which is located just northwest of the DFW Airport, got a mention during the trophy ceremony Sunday evening.

"The Jack Nicklaus Gold Medal for the winner of the 124th U.S. Open goes to Bryson DeChambeau, of Grapevine, Texas," United States Golf Association President Fred Perpall announced.

DeChambeau, who made the move from the PGA TOUR to the LIV Golf League in 2022, shared some insight into his new North Texas home back in January, on LIV's website.

At the time, the home was "almost ready" after a lengthy construction dating back to 2020.

“People don’t think I’m patient,” DeChambeau told LIV reporter Mike McAllister. “There’s a reason I’m patient in some areas and others not so much.”

McAllister reported that DeChambeau's Grapevine home sits on a 2.5-acre lot and features a 60-yard golf hole, including an area for hitting balls off his rooftop. It wouldn't be DeChambeau without some added customization.

Ironically, DeChambeau's new home is located in the Parr Park area of Grapevine, public records indicate. No word yet if Grapevine will be dropping that second "r" in honor of their newest major-champion resident.

DeChambeau's previous residence wasn't exactly a starter home. He listed his North Dallas property for $3.2 million this spring, according to Realtor.com. The 5,300-square-foot home featured five bedrooms, five and a half bathrooms, a pool and all the amenities a a pro golfer might need.

DeChambeau himself gave YouTube viewers a tour of the Dallas house. A peek at his new Grapevine mansion is surely on the way.
