DBU Baseball stays alive in Tucson Regional with win over top-seeded Arizona

The Patriots were able to bounce back from a lack-luster performance against West Virginia on Friday night.

TUCSON, Ariz. — Dallas Baptist University baseball was able to keep their postseason alive with a dominant 7-0 win over top-seeded Arizona on the second day of the Tucson Regional. 

The Patriots were sent to the losers' side of the double-elimination bracket after a Friday loss to West Virginia. 

On Saturday afternoon, DBU's Tom Poole was able to put on a captivating performance, hitting two home runs in back-to-back at-bats, resulting in a four-run swing in favor of the Patriots. 

DBU's senior pitcher Jaron DeBerry held the Wildcats scoreless through six innings. DeBerry threw 119 pitches and 75 strikes as he finished with an ERA of 3.50. 

Pitchers Connor Benge, River Ridings and Zach Todd were able to come in and close out the final three innings of the contest, keeping the Wildcats scoreless. 

So, the top-seeded hosts of the Tucson Regional, Arizona Wildcats, have now been eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. 

DBU will now look ahead to Sunday's matchup where they will face either Grand Canyon or West Virginia at 2 p.m.
