A North Texas canine officer that was shot last fall received a Purple Heart medal during city council on Tuesday.
K-9 Jack was shot in the ear and paw while serving a warrant back in November 2023 in Parker County. Weatherford police responded alongside Parker County deputies to the 200 block of Hancock Drive to serve a warrant.
While serving the warrant, the person they were serving fired at officers, according to Parker County Sheriff Russ Authier. Officers then returned fire, killing the man. It was not clear whether sheriff deputies or police shot him, WFAA reported.
K-9 Jack was shot during the incident. He was treated at I-20 Animal Hospital, fully recovered and returned to work.
