FORT WORTH, Texas — With temperatures expected to drop into the 30s across North Texas, many cities around the metroplex are opening emergency shelters to help protect those experiencing homelessness.
Both Fort Worth and Arlington will be opening shelters for individuals and families.
Fort Worth
In Fort Worth, shelters will be opened for individuals at the following locations:
- Presbyterian Night Shelter, 2400 Cypress St.
- Union Gospel Mission, 1321 E. Lancaster Ave.
An additional shelter for families will be open at the following location:
- The Salvation Army: 1855 E. Lancaster Ave.
To stay at the shelter for families, households must include at least one parent and one child.
If anyone arrives at either of the shelters for individuals and beds are full, they will be relocated to available overflow beds at additional emergency shelter locations.
For those experiencing homelessness during the day, the primary resource will be True Worth Place, 1513 E. Presidio St., which is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
Arlington
Arlington activates its homeless emergency cold weather shelter plan when temperatures reach 39 degrees or lower for four or more consecutive hours overnight. The following shelters will open:
- Arlington Life Shelter, 325 W. Division St.
- The Salvation Army, 712 W. Abram St.
Intake at Arlington Life Shelter is from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. IDs are required except for police drop-offs. Guests are to enter through the entrance on the east side of the building.
Intake at the Salvation Army shelter is from 7 p.m. through 10 p.m., aside from drop-offs made by police.
Meals will be served at both shelters.
