COLLEYVILLE, Texas — The Colleyville City Council Tuesday appointed a new city council member to fill the seat left by the resignation of former member George Bond.

Mark Alphonso, who serves on the city’s planning and zoning commission, was unanimously appointed to the Place 2 city council seat vacated by Bond Tuesday.

Bond was arrested on May 23 on a complaint of driving while under the influence for the second time this year and resigned from the city council at the request of Mayor Bobby Lindamood. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Bond was previously arrested on a complaint of driving while intoxicated in February. Bond’s term was set to expire in 2025 when the seat will come up for election.

Lindamood said at the time of Bond’s May arrest that it “called into question George’s ability to serve as an elected official for our great city.”

Alphonso has served as a member of Colleyville’s Planning and Zoning Commission since 2022. He’s also a member and past chairman of the Colleyville Chamber of Commerce.

According to the city charter, the city council is required to fill a vacancy within 30 days. The city council did not call a special election because Bond’s resignation occurred within 120 days of a regular election.
