COLLEYVILLE, Texas — Colleyville City Councilmember George Bond was arrested Thursday on a complaint of driving while under the influence and resigned from the city council, according to a news release from the city.
Colleyville Mayor Bobby Lindamood said in a statement that he asked for and received Bond’s resignation from the city council. Bond’s term on the city council was set to end in 2025, according to the city’s website.
“I am saddened by the events surrounding the arrest of City Council member George Bond. I am thankful that this action did not result in harm to himself or others. It is my sincere hope that George is able to secure the help necessary to live a happy and healthy life. However, in my opinion, this event has called into question George’s ability to serve as an elected official for our great city. It is with a heavy heart that I have asked for, and received, George’s resignation from the Colleyville City Council,” Lindamood said in a statement.
The Colleyville City Council is set to discuss the matter at their June 4 meeting.
Colleyville police say Bond was stopped at 3:14 a.m. Thursday for failure to stop at a designated point in the 1100 block of Cheek Sparger Road and was subsequently arrested on a complaint of driving while intoxicated.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Bond was previously arrested on a complaint of driving while intoxicated in February.
Bond and his family have lived in Colleyville since 2015 and he previously served on the city’s planning and zoning commission and as a commissioner on the city’s historic preservation committee, according to the city's website.
