IRVING, Texas — A nearly 8-hour SWAT standoff ended with the arrest of an armed robbery suspect who barricaded himself inside an apartment complex in Irving Thursday afternoon, according to the Irving Police Department.
Around 12:15 p.m. Irving PD SWAT was assisting Dallas PD with an arrest warrant for an aggravated robbery suspect in the 400 block of Block Drive.
Police said several people exited the complex but one person stayed and barricaded themselves inside. A source told WFAA that the suspect, Wilmer Colmenares Gonzalez, is the leader of a group of four men suspected of a terrifying attack at a home in the 4800 block of Elsby Avenue.
Two of the men, Yean Brayhan Torralba and Alberto Martinez Silva, were already in custody — and police documents show they're accused of following a woman into her garage, forcing her to the ground and then beating her with a gun.
Police said they then forced her into her room and stole $75,000 worth of jewelry they stuffed into her Gucci purse.
Sources told WFAA that a fingerprint and video from the garage led investigators to the suspects and eventually the apartment complex on Block Dr. where authorities surrounded him and took him into custody.
Additionally, the fourth suspect, Manuel Henandez-Hernandez, had been arrested earlier in the week on Monday for his role in the aggravated robbery.
