DALLAS — Among the 3,458 people who ran the Dallas Marathon, there was one man from Las Colinas who really stuck out.
"I got a lot of funny looks," Brian Goldsmith told WFAA.
Goldsmith ran the marathon in a full football uniform. That included a helmet, knee, thigh and hip pads.
"People were just like…what’s going on here?" he said.
"I’ve wanted to be in the Guinness World Record book for a really long time, have a couple failed attempts," Goldsmith explained.
Most recently, he tried to break the world record for fastest half marathon dressed as a piece of fruit.
"And I did it, I beat it by like 50, 55 minutes!" he said.
"And then Guinness told me the banana costume was too small."
So Goldsmith, who works as a ticket rep for the XFL Arlington Renegades, went back to the drawing board.
"As a sales guy, I’m always looking at ways for brand recognition," he explained.
The XFL is a professional football minor league, newly headquartered in Arlington, right next to the Rangers and Cowboys.
"You know there’s so many teams here, sometimes you can kind of get lost in the sauce," he said.
So, Goldsmith decided to make his team stick out. And at a time of 3:33:42, he broke the world record for fastest marathon in a full football uniform.
"It was just really one of the coolest moments of my life!" he exclaimed.
Goldsmith said he’s waiting for Guinness to certify the record and make it official, but hopes, in the meantime, it might already be doing some good.
"I wanna see this place rocking!" he said, referring to Choctaw Stadium where the Renegades play. "I want every game sold out, and I want everyone to say my season ticket rep just broke the Guinness world record!"
