Here's what Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson has won and lost during the NBA, NHL Playoffs

Friendly wagers are always on Johnson's mind as the City of Dallas always has at least one professional sports team in season.

DALLAS — In addition to airing every game of the 2024 NBA Finals on our station, WFAA is also hosting a special presentation called "The Pregame" before each and every matchup in the series. Head here for more information.

As both the NHL and NBA postseasons reach their final stages, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson is happily sitting at an unofficial 2-1 record against mayors of opposing teams' cities in 2024.

The Dallas Mavericks are continuing their historic playoff run as they prepare to face the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.

Previously, the Mavs played against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals and defeated them 4-1. Johnson had made a bet with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

Frey agreed to the bet and will soon be sending over some Dancing Bear Chocolate to Johnson.

On the NHL side, Johnson and the Mayor of Denver Mike Johnston agreed on a belt buckle bet -- say that three times fast -- for the second round of the NHL Playoffs as the Stars ultimately defeated the Avalanche 4-2.

Unfortunately, Johnson's win streak ended when the Stars lost to the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Final. And now, Johnson must send a video of himself cheering on the Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final, wearing one of their jerseys.

In 2023, Johnson lost a bet with Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker over the SMU-TCU football game. Johnson had to buy a lunch for the Fort Worth City Council from Mi Cocina.

In that same year, Johnson lost to the Mayor of Las Vegas Carolyn Goodman when the Stars fell short to the Knights and had to cough over a genuine Stetson cowboy hat.

On May 31, after the Mavs secured their spot in the NBA Finals, Johnson offered up yet another friendly wager with the Mayor of Boston Michelle Wu.

She has yet to respond.

So, in summation -- always gamble responsibly and try and have as much fun as you can when your favorite teams are doing well. It's an experience that not everyone gets.
