BEDFORD, Texas — H-E-B broke ground Thursday on two more grocery stores in North Texas.
The South Texas-based grocer, which has expanded rapidly into North Texas in the last three years, is building stores in Murphy and in the Mid-Cities area of northeast Tarrant County.
The Murphy store will be located at Farm Road 544 and McCreary Road. The Mid-Cities location will be located on the northwest corner of Cheek-Sparger Road and Rio Grande Boulevard, which is a shared area of Euless and Bedford.
Both new stores will be full-service H-E-B stores, featuring an H-E-B Pharmacy and True Texas BBQ restaurant. They'll also have a gas station and car wash, and the stores will be designed "to reflect the character unique to each community," the company said in a press release.
The stores are expected to open in 2026.
H-E-B has existing stores across North Texas, including in Plano, Allen, McKinney, Mansfield, Fort Worth, Frisco and Prosper. Locations in Rockwall and Irving are also under construction.
H-E-B for years had locations in surrounding areas of North Texas, including Burleson, Hudson Oaks and Waxahachie. It wasn't until 2021 that the grocer decided to venture into North Texas' more populous areas, opening several stores in Collin County.
H-E-B also has a Joe V's Smart Shop store in Dallas, with another one planned. The company also owns Central Market stores across North Texas.
Walmart, Kroger, Tom Thumb and Albertson's are the other major grocers in North Texas. Tom Thumb this week broke ground on three new stores in North Texas, located in Midlothian, Sanger and Sunnyvale.
