DALLAS — A 20-year-old woman died after a Dallas police officer hit her with his squad car Monday, according to the Dallas Police Department.
According to DPD, the officer was in a marked squad car responding to a call without their car's lights or sirens on, traveling east on Elam Road. DPD claims a woman, later identified as Aresly Jaramillo, was standing at the median near the intersection of Elam Road and Cedarcliff Drive.
Police claim she "ran in front of two vehicles trying to turn left onto Cedarcliff Drive, and into the far-left lane where the officer was driving" before she was hit.
"It’s not fair…it’s not fair…" Jaramillo's mother, Tavita Jasso cried to WFAA.
"My little girl was only twenty."
Jasso said she was at home with her daughter Monday night. She said she decided to go for a walk at the park nearby and kissed her daughter goodbye.
"But never would I thought that was going to be the last hug and kiss I received from her," she sobbed.
Jasso told WFAA she walked to the park not knowing her daughter decided to follow behind her.
"So, I wouldn’t be by myself," she cried.
"I was already in the park in the baseball field when I heard the accident, but I never thought it was my daughter."
DPD says the officer stopped and administered first aid to Jaramillo after he hit her, police say, but she died later at the hospital.
Jasso told WFAA she has lots of questions and is demanding more details.
"If there any witnesses, if anybody saw all this, please get a hold of us, I need to know what happened," she sobbed.
DPD says the investigation is ongoing.
"I know that nothing is going to change the fact my daughter is not with us anymore," Jasso cried.
Aresly had just graduated from Concord College, her mom said. She was excited to work as a physical therapist for children and the elderly. Jasso said her daughter will be remembered as noble and full of dreams.
"She had care and love for everyone."
