DALLAS — The Dallas City Council Wednesday approved a contract up to $7.5 million for parts of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center expansion project.
The city council approved a construction manager at risk agreement with Trinity Alliance Ventures for pre-construction, construction and any related demolition services for the first component of the expansion project.
The total project construction budget ranges from $1.9 billion to $2.5 billion, according to city documents.
The Dallas City Council Wednesday also approved a contract up to $7 million with six companies for job order contracting services at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, Eddie Bernice Johnson Union Station, the reunion parking garage and other city facilities.
The two-year contract was awarded to Brown and Root Industrial Services, Phoenix I Restoration and Construction, RS Commercial Construction, Philips/May Corporation, Adept Facilities and Design and Big Sky Construction.
Dallas' Convention and Event Services is leading a team of architects, engineers, and other contractors to design a Convention Center district from Eddie Bernice Johnson Union Station to Old City Park.
Construction on the convention center rebuild project began June 26, and the overall project will expand exhibition halls by 76,000 square feet, nearly triple its meeting and double ballroom space and feature seven total components. The new facility is scheduled to open in 2029.
Ahead of its 2028 scheduled completion, the Dallas Business Journal reports 41 conventions signed lease agreements to host events at the reconstructed site starting in 2029 and could create an estimated $658 million in direct spending.
