PLANO, Texas — Tanya Bruning wanted to meet at the intersection of Landershire Lane and Roundrock Trail.

Bruning said she walks to this intersection several times every day.

“Whenever I just need to get out, I go for a walk and this is where I end up,” she said, fighting back tears.

It’s here where her 15-year-old son, James Dean Boyd Jr., was involved in an accident last week and died from his injuries. Police say he was riding a dirt bike.

“I miss him so much,’ said his mother.

The Plano Police Department said the Vines High School student was involved in the crash at about 7:30 p.m. last Wednesday.

Police said that "preliminary contributing factors of the crash include the fact that the bike did not have a headlamp and was not meant to be driven on a public roadway."

Bruning said she was at cheerleading practice with her daughter when she got a call from her other son that James was in an accident. She said he was just blocks away from home.

“I just collapsed to the ground and it just feels like a bad dream,” Bruning said.

Bruning said a memorial was made where the accident happened by some of James’ friends. She said James played in the band at school and his driver's permit came in the mail just this week.

"Vines High School and Plano ISD administrators are deeply saddened to learn about the tragic loss of a student," Plano ISD said in a statement last week. "We received the heartbreaking news overnight and implemented our Emergency Response Plan effective first thing this morning to ensure appropriate support for students and staff."

Bruning said she’s not going to rest until she’s able to get her son justice.

“I want to know what really happened,” Bruning said. “A lot of what I’ve been told does not make sense. As a mother I just...I need to know.”
