PLANO, Texas — A 15-year-old Plano ISD student died Wednesday after crashing into a standing truck while on a dirt bike, according to police.
The Plano Police Department said the Vines High School student was involved in the crash at approximately 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Roundrock Trail and Landershire Lane. Police said that "preliminary contributing factors of the crash include the fact that the bike did not have a headlamp and was not meant to be driven on a public roadway."
According to Plano police, the teen was transported by Plano Fire-Rescue where he was pronounced dead.
The crash is under investigation by the Plano Police Traffic Unit.
The identity of the student will not be released by police due to his age, the department said.
"Vines High School and Plano ISD administrators are deeply saddened to learn about the tragic loss of a student," Plano ISD said in a statement. "We received the heartbreaking news overnight and implemented our Emergency Response Plan effective first thing this morning to ensure appropriate support for students and staff."
According to Plano ISD, counselors will be available on campus to offer emotional support and guidance to students and staff. "This support will continue for as long as needed to help our community cope with this sudden loss."
"Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family and loved ones during this difficult time," the district said.
