Second North Texas city reports thieves breaking into neighborhood cars

This is the second time in the past four days that a North Texas police department has been dealing with car thieves in neighborhoods.

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Arlington Police Department have a warning for homeowners after releasing a video Thursday showing a suspect stealing from an unlocked car.

In the Ring surveillance video, you can see a man walk between two parked cars and grab the front door handles of both cars. The one on his left is unlocked. He proceeds to go inside the car and proceeds to steal from what's inside.

Arlington police said the three things to remember include:

  • Take your keys with you
  • Always lock your vehicles
  • Hide any items of value

Officials also said if you are a Hyundai or Kia owner, those companies have launched a service campaign to prevent thefts of these specific vehicles.

This is the second time this week a North Texas police department has been dealing with car thieves in neighborhoods.

On Tuesday, investigators with the Carrollton Police Department said they were reviewing security footage to arrest three or more individuals who broke into almost 60 cars in one morning.

According to officials, 58 vehicles were reported to be broken into within the Meadow Ridge and Harvest Run neighborhoods. Glass could still be seen in the street with many cars having windows covered with trash bags.

Security footage from a home on Greenview Drive shows at least three suspects walking down the street, breaking into and peering into parked cars just before 3 a.m.

Some victims told WFAA that investigators revealed to them that as many as six individuals were involved with the crime, but police didn't speak to that in a release. Personal belongings and valuable items were reported missing.
