23-year-old man's body recovered from Lake Lewisville, officials say

Officials said the man who went under and didn't resurface was in an area of the lake that is about 45 feet deep.

LEWISVILLE, Texas —  A 23-year-old man drowned at Lake Lewisville Saturday, officials said. 

Emergency officials responded to a possible drowning call around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, a spokesperson for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said in a statement. 

Officials said the man who went under and didn't resurface was in an area of the lake that is about 45 feet deep.

The search for him lasted late Sunday into Monday morning. Texas Game Wardens located the body of a 23-year-old man using side scan sonar, and the Lewisville Fire Department dive team recovered the body from the lake around 8 p.m., the release states.

His identity was not immediately released.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also responded to the reported drowning and assisted in the recovery efforts.

North Texas has had a string of water-related accidents and deaths this summer. Police are urging swimmers, boaters and kayakers to be safe while out on the water.
