TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — A man was sentenced in Tarrant County on Monday after the 2017 shooting death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend inside her Arlington home.
Keith Haynes, 33, received life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted of killing 25-year-old Kenisha Walker.
"He was such a coward, killing her and his unborn baby," said Tarrant County Assistant District Attorney Allenna Bangs. "Kenishia is important. The unborn baby's life was important. And they both mattered."
The morning of April 14, 2017, Walker's 8-year-old son found her dead inside her bedroom. Haynes was arrested at his Plano apartment a few days after the murder.
Court documents say Walker was afraid Hayes would kill her. She even sent text messages to a friend with instructions on what to do if she turned up dead. Authorities said text messages also showed Haynes planned to meet Walker shortly before she was killed.
"She had no idea when Mr. Haynes called, asking her to leave the door unlocked for him, that she was being set up," Bangs said.
In a statement sent to WFAA, the Arlington Police Department said, "We want to commend our Homicide Unit for the job they did working to identify and ultimately arrest Ms. Walker's killer. We also want to thank the Tarrant County DA's Office for their successful prosecution of this heinous crime."
