DALLAS — Dallas Police and the FBI's Dallas division have announced the arrest of a man suspected of being the bank robber dubbed "Derby Desperado."
The FBI says the dapper thief used a fedora, sunglasses, blue gloves and surgical mask disguise to rob two Dallas-area banks, according to a news release.
Justin Chambers, 40, was arrested Monday morning in connection with the robbery of the Capital One Bank in Dallas on July 12, officials said. Chambers will be charged by the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Texas.
On July 3 around 1:30 p.m., Derby Desperado walked into the Texans Credit Union on Telecom Pkwy in Garland speaking loudly on the phone, walked to the counter, and handed the teller a note demanding cash. He was seen leaving the bank in a dark SUV with an undisclosed amount of money.
Nine days later, he struck again, robbing the Capital One Bank at 2903 Forest Lane in Dallas, using the same disguise and passing the same note. The getaway vehicle was the same dark SUV seen during his Garland robbery.
During the July 3 robbery, he was seen wearing a dark-colored suit, white shirt, dark tie with light-colored stripes, brown shoes, a light fedora-style hat with a dark band, a white surgical mask, and blue surgical gloves.
During the Dallas robbery, he wore a dark-colored suit, a dark shirt, and a light or yellow tie.
It's unclear whether Chambers will also be charged in connection to the July 3 robbery.
