DALLAS — A Dallas Police Department officer indicted in March of multiple charges, including theft, was fired Thursday by Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia.
Documents from DPD show that the former police sergeant, Katherine Silvia, is accused of theft by deception, tampering with government records and forgery.
Between Oct. 28, 2022, and Jan. 29, 2023, the document says, Silvia requested and was paid overtime by the city for assignments she never actually worked. The document states she was paid about $17,080.77 for overtime she never worked.
"The suspect then altered her physical timecards, which are considered governmental records, by changing the hours worked on the cards to reflect less time worked," the document reads. "The suspect also used another supervisor's signature stamp, without his knowledge or consent, to sign her own time cards."
The case was referred to the Dallas County District Attorney's Office in August last year, and a Dallas County grand jury indicted her on charges of theft between $2,500 and $30,000, tampering with a government record, and false statement property/credit between $2,500 and $30,000.
