Portillo's opening another location in DFW, but this one will be the first with 'Restaurant of the Future' design

There are five Portillo's locations currently open, and with the latest announcement, two more are on the way.

GRAPEVINE, Texas — Portillo's is opening another location in Dallas-Fort Worth, but this one will be a little different than the others in the metroplex.

The iconic restaurant is known for its Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, char-grilled burgers, crispy, crinkle-cut French fries, chocolate cake and shakes.

The location will be between Highway 114 and South Main Street, near the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in Grapevine, officials told WFAA.

One of the brand’s first “Restaurant of the Future” designs, the 6,200-square-foot building will sport a rustic Southwest garage theme. The smaller-footprint efficient build will offer seating for about 125 guests inside and seats for nearly 40 guests on a seasonal outdoor patio, as well as a Portillo’s Pick Up shelves, Grab and Go area, and double drive-thru lane to accommodate off-premise guests, officials said in a release.

Portillo's also announced two locations opening in the Houston area – in Stafford and Katy.

“With the opening of these three new restaurants in the Lone Star State, Texas will become our largest market outside our home state of Illinois,” says Portillo’s CEO Michael Osanloo. “Since arriving in Texas, we have been greeted with open arms and empty stomachs, so we are thrilled to be able to continue expanding our footprint in Dallas-Fort Worth and officially bring our unrivaled Chicago street food to the Houston area later this year.”

Portillo's said all three will open later this year, but did not specify a day or month. You can learn more about these locations and get updates for them on Portillos.com/TXExpansion and selecting either Stafford, Katy or Grapevine as their preferred location.

The Grapevine location will be the sixth in the metroplex. Portillo's already has locations in Arlington, Allen, Fort Worth and The Colony. A location in Mansfield is coming soon, according to Portillo's website.

Portillo’s started in 1963 when Dick Portillo invested $1,100 into a small trailer to open his first hot dog stand in Villa Park, IL, which he called “The Dog House.” As of today, the company has more than 70 locations spread out across nine states.
