ROCKWALL COUNTY, Texas — Just one day after opening their Mansfield location, H-E-B broke ground on a new store location in Rockwall.
The groundbreaking marks H-E-B's first project in Rockwall County, the smallest county in Texas. It also emphasizes H-E-B's rapid expansion into the DFW Metroplex.
The 131,000 square foot store will have the traditional grocery store offerings like a bakery, deli and seafood section, but also feature some H-E-B favorites like Sushiya, a sushi counter, and True Texas BBQ, an H-E-B-owned, in-store barbecue joint.
As part of the groundbreaking ceremony, H-E-B gifted $10,000 each to Rockwall ISD Education Foundation, Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County, Rockwall County Helping Hands, Friends of the Rockwall County Library and Rainbow Room of Rockwall County.
H-E-B has had a presence in Dallas since 2001 with their Central Market stores, but only recently started opening their H-E-B and Joe V's Smart Shop stores in North Texas.
The grocery chain's entry into the DFW market presents a major upside for the company. With an estimated 8.1 million people and growing, the Metroplex has grown into the largest metropolitan area in Texas.
H-E-B is well-poised for the expansion, too. The grocery chain is the fifth largest privately-held company in the U.S., bringing in $43 billion in revenue last year.
