Things to do in Dallas-Fort Worth this weekend: International beer day, watermelon farmers market and a sustainable skatepark outing

DALLAS — We’re back in the dog days of Texas summer with triple-digit forecasts.

Even if you need to cool off, the events in Dallas-Fort Worth are heating up!

Celebrate International Beer Day, pick up a watermelon at the Dallas Farmers Market or participate in community service at 4DWN skatepark. None of those pique your interest? There are plenty of concerts, back to school events, baseball games and more to keep you entertained.

Here’s a look at what is happening this weekend.

Friday, Aug. 2

International Beer Day at the AT&T Discovery District (Dallas)

Raise a glass to International Beer Day!

Celebrate the annual festivities at the AT&T Discovery District starting at 11 a.m. this Friday. Attendees can enjoy a wide selection of craft brews at The Exchange Bar. Grab something to eat at Cowboy Chow with dishes paired with handpicked beers.

Whether you’re a beer brainiac or looking to find your new go-to drink, there’s something for everyone.

Self-parking is available at the 1212 Jackson Street garage and is complimentary with validation from the Exchange Food Hall.

Saturday, Aug. 3

Dallas’ Original Watermelon Day (Dallas)

Summer sure tastes sweet at the sixth annual Watermelon Day at the Dallas Farmers Market.

Enjoy more than 15 varieties of watermelon in all colors, shapes and sizes all day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Beyond the free samplings, there will also be watermelon printmaking workshop, kids face painting, chef demonstrations, live music and local vendors.

This all-ages event is also dog-friendly if you want to take the whole family on one last summer adventure.

The open-air farmers market is open Saturday and Sunday. If you’re interested in something other than watermelon, here’s a list of other small business vendors at the market.

Sunday, Aug. 4

Eco Sunday: Nourishing Communities, Sustaining Environments at 4DWN (Dallas)

Make a difference for the planet this weekend at Eco Sunday, hosted each month by Dallas nonprofit skatepark 4DWN.

Participants will have opportunities for community service, gardening and composting, self-care and skate classes all day.

There will also be a cookout and music for those hoping to skate the day away.

While 4DWN is an organization rooted in skateboarding culture, its mission is to foster sustainable health and well-being in kids, families and their environment.

This is an all-ages, free event that starts at 9 a.m. 4DWN is located at 2633 Ferris St.
