Storm timing

A line or broken line of storms swept from west to east across North Texas during Wednesday morning.

They will keep moving east of Dallas-Fort Worth through the rest of the morning.

Severe Threat

This round of storms will NOT be the same as the round we saw a week ago Monday. When we had 12 tornadoes occur in North Texas. Severe weather threat has moved out of the metroplex.

That round formed during the heat of the day and were isolated supercell thunderstorms.

Today's round is a broken line of storms moving in during the overnight hours.

The severe threat is not zero, but it is different that last week.

Main threat with the line of storms will be for strong to damaging wind gusts of 60-70 mph.

Some pocket change size hail will be possible with strongest storms.

The tornado threat is not zero, but it is low.

When a line of storms moves through, along the leading edge of those storms, brief, weaker tornadoes are possible. These are weaker tornadoes that only last a minute or two or less. While they certainly can be damaging, they are very isolated since they don't last very long.

Rainfall forecast

Unfortunately, this will not be a drought-busting rain event for us.

But we'll take whatever we can get!

Rain totals will generally be less than 1 inch with most likely receiving between 1/4in to 1/2in. Highest totals look to be across East Texas into the ArkLaTex.

Most of North Texas now needs around 6 inches to 9 inches of rain to get out of the drought. While any rain is good rain, we really need a whole lot more.
