As Phoenix continues its streak of 100+ degree weather for over 3 months, what's the most DFW has had in a row?

Dallas-Fort Worth had its most consecutive 100-degree days in the summer of 1980, according to the National Weather Service.

DALLAS — Phoenix's high temperature was 108 degrees on Tuesday, which was four degrees above normal, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

It's been cooking there for quite a while, too.

According to the NWS, Tuesday was Phoenix's 100th consecutive day at or above 100 degrees, shattering its old record of 76 days in a row set back in 1993. It first eclipsed 100 degrees in Phoenix on May 27 (102 degrees Fahrenheit) and has been triple digits every day since.

There is no relief in sight either. That number is expected to grow with temperatures forecasted well over 107 for at least the next 10 days, according to WFAA sister station KPNX.

In Phoenix, there have been 37 nights this summer that didn’t cool off below 90 degrees Fahrenheit, another record. There have also been 54 days of 110-degree temperatures, which is just one day away from breaking the record of 55 days last year.

This summer in DFW was pretty pleasant, all things considered. Here is a 2024 recap:

But for us Texans, we know a thing or two about unbearable summers, too. Granted, a much different kind of heat (Phoenix is a much drier heat than we experience) ... but heat nonetheless.

Such a wild statistic made us wonder, what's the most consecutive days DFW has been 100 degrees?

What is Dallas-Fort Worth's record for most 100-degree days in a row?

You'll need to rewind to the summer of 1980.

That year, we had 42 days of consecutive 100-degree days, according to the NWS. It was 100 degrees or higher from June 23, 1980, to Aug. 3, 1980.

What is Dallas-Fort Worth's record for the least 100-degree days in a row?

Believe it or not, there have actually been two calendar years with zero days at or above 100. This happened in 1906 and 1973, according to the NWS

Man ... what a time that must have been.
