Companies in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are finding ways to support those impacted by Hurricane Milton as the strong storm begins taking its toll on Florida.

As many Florida residents were still recovering from Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Milton approached Oct. 9 with strong winds and threats of flooding. Millions of Florida residents are under mandatory or voluntary evacuation warnings. The storm made landfall south of Tampa in the evening.

Dallas-based AT&T Inc. announced Oct. 9 that customers in areas affected by the hurricane will be able to waive specific charges for residential and business wireline orders through Nov. 8.

Waived fees include installation charges at customers’ temporary or new permanent locations and when the customer moves back to the original premises.

Fees for certain jacks and associated wiring, one-time activation charges for establishing remote call forward features and monthly rates for one-month remote call forwarding services will also be waived.

Overage charges will be waived for those in affected areas through Nov. 7.

American Airlines, which is based in Fort Worth, added flights with more than 4,000 seats total from airports in Orlando, Tampa, and Sarasota to help people evacuate the storm. Overall, Hurricane Milton forced American and Dallas-based Southwest to cancel or delay hundreds of flights.

Fuel Logic, a Dallas-based provider of on-site and emergency fuel delivery services, was shifting its focus from supporting recovery efforts in Asheville, North Carolina, which was flooded and severely damaged by Hurricane Helene.

Fuel Logic announced Oct. 9 that the company will send critical resources and partners to Florida to help with Hurricane Milton recovery.

"We're still actively responding to Hurricane Helene's aftermath, ensuring fuel is available for flood recovery operations in Asheville and surrounding areas," stated Eduardo Garcia, operations manager at Fuel Logic. "But as of this morning, our team is also shifting focus to Florida, where fuel is already scarce due to high demand from residents and businesses preparing for Hurricane Milton. We're working quickly to position resources ahead of this new storm."

Mandatory evacuations in Florida have left many gas stations with fuel shortages, so Fuel Logic has partnered with other providers to get fuel supplies ready across the state for those evacuating and for emergency responders who come in after the storm.
