DALLAS — It's COLD... REALLY REALLY COLD.
Lows will be in the single digits and teens Sunday, Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday morning -- and highs will be well below freezing for several days.
While cold like this is not unprecedented in North Texas, few cold records are in jeopardy of being broken.
Let's look at what records we could break
Sunday
Temps Sunday morning were a mix single digits, teens, and 20s on Sunday morning. The record low at DFW is 4° in 1964. The temp Sunday morning dropped to at least 13°. Even if it drops a little lower, the record is safe.
The high on Sunday is 25°. The record coldest high is 23° set in 1917. There's a chance we could tie or break that record.
Monday
The forecast LOW Monday morning is 18° and the record is 11° set back in 1905. That record looks safe.
The forecast HIGH Monday afternoon is 26° and the record coldest high temperature is 31° set back in 1917. We have very high confidence of breaking this record
Tuesday
The forecast LOW Tuesday morning is 12° and the record is 11° set back in 1930. We'll be right around that to start the day.
The forecast HIGH Tuesday afternoon is 29° and the record coldest high temperature is 26° set back in 1953. Highs on Tuesday will depend on how much sunshine is around, if more sun is around, an afternoon record has a lower chance of occurring.
It does get better, so hang in there!
We stay below freezing for 80+ hours. Which, by the way, is nowhere near the record set back in 1983. Some of you may remember you were able to walk on White Rock Lake!
To crack the Top 5 longest below-freezing stretches, DFW would need to stay below-freezing for well more than 100 hours.
