This summer has not been as hot and dry as last summer. However, burn bans have made a return to a few parts of North Texas.

Active burn bans

Most North Texas counties are now under burn bans. Including Tarrant and Collin counties in the immediate DFW area.

Remember to always check with your county for the latest information as more bans could be added moving forward. And some counties have different rules for outdoor burning. Some counties can be under burn bans for just the day depending on air quality conditions or fire danger. Check with your county if you are unsure!

With the hot and dry conditions North Texas is currently experiencing, fire danger will stay elevated across the area. Especially in western North Texas. Use caution with open flames and anything that causes sparks as fires could spread quickly.

Drought has returned

While not as bad as last year, the recent dry streak has brought drought conditions back to North Texas.

Most of DFW and most of the northern half of North Texas are now under "moderate" drought. This is the lowest level of drought classification, but drought nonetheless. "Severe" drought has returned as well with a large swath of northwestern North Texas under that classification.
