The drought in North Texas is getting worse. Here is what the numbers show.

The drought in North Texas is expanding.

DALLAS — It has been dry in North Texas. Unfortunately, this has brought more dry fuels to the area, increasing the fire danger.

A normal summer (June, July and August) would bring about 7.96 inches of rain. We are trending well below that. The last measurable rain at DFW Airport was 0.32" on July 16. This is now tied for the 39th-longest streak without measurable rain at DFW.

This summer is now considered the fourth driest summer to date and the 20th driest year to date.

The lack of rain has increased the drought across North Texas. Portions of Wise, Denton, Tarrant and Parker counties are in extreme drought. Moderate to severe drought now takes over the metroplex.

The worst of the drought is found in Central Texas. There is where we find the state's only exceptional drought. Three months ago, 38.22% of the state had no measurable drought. That has now dropped to 11.85%.

The latest trends show rainfall will be hard to come by across North Texas through the end of the month.
