DALLAS — This week's winter storm was more of an ice and sleet event than snow, especially as freezing temperatures still had roads dangerously slick on Friday morning.
But we still saw enough powder to give us our first measurable snow of the season, and some areas in North Texas got more than others. Snowfall totals ranged from around two-tenths of an inch to our southeast (where it was mostly rain and ice) to five inches in areas to the west and northwest.
Here are some of the official snowfall totals, via the National Weather Service in Fort Worth:
Eastland: 5 inches
Granbury: 3 inches
Graham: 3 inches
Bowie: 3 inches
Jacksboro: 3 inches
Plano: 2.5 inches
Fort Worth: 2.5 inches
Dallas: 2 inches
Denton: 2 inches
Johnson County: 2 inches
DFW Airport: 1.7 inches
Mineral Wells: 1.5 inches
Gainesville: 1.5 inches
No matter how much snow you saw, it was a welcome sight Thursday after a night and morning of freezing rain and sleet.
And, like so many others throughout the Dallas-Fort Metroplex, handfuls of Downtown Dallas residents were all too eager to jump out into the icy streets to take in the scenery in that moment.
Among them? WFAA director of photography Chance Horner, who hit the scene with his gear in tow to capture videos and photos of the chilling (in more ways than one) scene.
