A round of rain moves into the rest of North Texas on Friday. It'll be a cool and rainy day. This will be mostly light to moderate showers with a thunderstorm or two possible. Severe weather is not likely. Rain moves out Friday night with almost everywhere dry by Saturday morning.

Rain totals look to be generally less than 1" across most of North Texas. The exception being western and southwestern areas which could see 1in+. This will be just the kind of rain that we like: steady and not severe. It might ruin some Friday plans, but that's the way the weather goes.

14-day forecast (including the Christmas Holiday)

No major cool-downs or wintry weather leading up to Christmas the way it looks now.

In fact, above normal temps look possible for the week before Christmas. 60s for highs are around 3° to 8° above normal for that point in December. The pattern looks like some rain may return to the area Friday through Christmas Day. As it looks now, any precip looks like RAIN and wintry weather looks unlikely.

December by the numbers

Dec. 1 was the start of meteorological winter, which includes the months of December, January and February.  The beginning of December brings normal highs near 61 and lows near 41. By the end of the month, normal morning lows drop to 36 with highs near 56. The average precipitation is less than 3 inches, making December the sixth wettest month of the year.

Daylight continues to decline, losing about nine minutes of daylight between Dec. 1 and the winter solstice on Dec. 21.
