DFW Weather: The pattern has been warm and sunny for a while now -- but are there signs of fall on the horizon?

Temperatures have stayed above normal and rain has been absent. When will that change?

DALLAS — Is it still summer around here? Or is it fall, like the calendar says?

Let's dive into that with a look at what's to come weather-wise these next few days.

Quick look ahead:

  • Cool mornings, warm afternoons
  • No significant rain in North Texas for the foreseeable future
  • Humidity stays low

Rest of this week:

So, what's in the cards this weekend? Well, you can expect pleasant mornings followed by warm afternoons.

Temps will stay above normal, especially during the afternoon, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. But all this comes with low humidity. So, even though it will be warm, it will feel better outside than when we have that gross humidity around here in the summer.

This will also keep mornings feeling cooler to comfy as well.

A cold front will then push even drier air into the area early next week. At that point, highs will drop to the mid-80s, which is closer to normal for this time of the year. Still, all of the highs in our forecast are trending warmer than normal for the first half of October.

Any rain chances?

Unfortunately, there aren't any rain chances headed our way any time soon.

In fact, most of Texas (and the country for that matter) will stay dry through next week. The only rain in the forecast during this stretch looks to fall along the Texas coast, plus maybe a few showers that make their way into southern Central Texas during this weekend.

But we need the rain!

The latest drought monitor in North Texas shows we're in a fairly widespread moderate to severe drought. All was going so well until the summer! And it's only gotten worse since June. The good news? On average, North Texas sees 4.37 inches of rain in October, making it one of the wettest months of the year. The bad news? The first half of the month looks  like it'll be dry.

14-day forecast

Welp, no major pattern shifts in the next two weeks.

A couple weak fronts are possible here or there, but there's nothing that looks significant at this point.
