A cool start to 2024! Here's what we're expecting weather-wise through the first couple of weeks of 2024.
Quick facts:
- Cooler than normal for the first week of 2024
- 2 more rounds of rain over the next several days
- Dry weekend ahead
Cool to chilly temps continue
Highs will be in the 50s each day and morning lows will be in the 30s and 40s. It will be cool to chilly, but it's not terribly below normal for this time of the winter.
Multiple rain chances
The start of 2024 will bring rain chances around every two to three days as a series of disturbances move over North Texas.
Thursday night and Friday
The next chance will be this evening into Friday morning.
Rain will spread into North Texas late Thursday evening lingering into Friday morning. Rain will move out during the morning on Friday. It looks like most of Friday afternoon and evening will be dry in North Texas.
Rain looks to mainly be in the form of showers as well, so there is no concern about severe weather at this point. Temperatures will be above freezing, so no need to worry about winter weather either. It'll be dry on Saturday and Sunday. Rain accumulations for the night will be close to one-quarter of an inch.
Next Monday
We'll do it all over again next Monday with another round of rain.
This one could be a little heavier potentially with some thunderstorms as well. Right now, the severe threat appears low, but not zero. We will have to watch closely. This one is still several days away. Be sure to check back in! After the rain moves out, colder air will sink in.
The exact timing, coverage, and details will be worked out over the coming week. As of now, it looks like winter weather stays to the north of North Texas.
14-day forecast
The pattern of rain chances every two to three days looks to continue into the second week of January as well. The DFW Metroplex could pick up near one-inch of rainfall over the next week. Higher amounts are likely for spots east of DFW. Temperatures will be up and down a bit, but no signs of significantly cool or warm weather on the horizon.
