DALLAS — We did it, North Texas! We made it through the winter. But let's be honest... it wasn't that rough.
Let's reflect on the pretty warm winter season. If you recall, our winter forecast from the fall was for a near to warmer than normal temperatures and above-normal rainfall. Much of that was thanks to El Nino.
A Toasty February
As we say goodbye to February, let's look back at the warmth. The average temp was 57.7° which made it the 4th warmest February on record. The month that has become infamously known for ice and cold snaps, instead saw laughable, brief shots of cold air.
And only ONE freeze the entire month. The warmest day of the month peaked at an impressive 94° degrees on the 26th. That's only the 10th time in North Texas records that we've been in the 90s in February.
Winter Overview
It was the 13th warmest winter on record. We really made strides in this record with the exceptionally warm February.
We had only 14 freezes... that's really low. The normal through February is 27. The 14 we saw was the 4th fewest on record.
El Nino did its thing this winter. We were well above normal with rainfall going into February, but February started seeing fewer and fewer shots of rain. We ended up a tad above normal.
