  • Risk of severe is low
  • A much cooler weekend follows

Widespread rain has ended

Widespread showers and storms from Friday morning have moved out of North Texas.

That rain coupled with rain and storms Thursday caused rain totals ranging from .50 inches to 2-plus inches for most of the area. Highest totals were in and around the DFW area and just to the west and southwest.

Officially, DFW picked up 2.78 inches of rain since Thursday, with 2.67 inches of that falling on Thursday. That 2.67 inches was a record for the day (March 7), breaking the old record of 1.12 inches set in 1947.

A few more showers or storms Friday afternoon/evening

Friday afternoon and evening won't be completely rain-free, but rain coverage will be much lower. Spotty to scattered showers and storms are possible as a front moves into the area, but rain will be very hit or miss.

It's not impossible for a t-storm to have some hail, but the severe threat will continue to be low.

Any rain leaves North Texas with a dry forecast Friday evening into Friday night. Much cooler air will follow with a dry and cooler weekend in store.

Weekend Forecast

Chilly temps return! Mostly in the morning.

Saturday will start off with some clouds, but skies will clear through the day with sunshine during the afternoon. After starting in the 40s, afternoon temps will be in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Sunday morning will be cold to chilly with lows in the 30s for most. There's a chance at a little frost for western and northern North Texas Sunday morning, so if you've done any early spring planting make sure to protect those plants!
