DALLAS —
March is here, and so is spring, at least meteorological spring. Here's our outlook for the month:
March Stats
There is a folklore describing the month of March. It says, "March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb." This was more than likely started as a reference in astronomy describing the positions of the constellations Leo and Aries.
March overall is an interesting month as winter closes out and spring arrives. This brings large difference in "normal" from the start and end of the month.
"Normal" is the average over the last 30 years reported at DFW.
Normal average high temperature on March 1st is 64 degrees and by the time March ends, the normal high is 73 degrees. Normal low temperatures also climb by about eight degrees.
One of the big plus sides is the amount of daylight we gain, just over an hour. Daylight saving time begins March 13. This also marks the first time this year the sun sets after 7 in the evening.
March outlook
While we can give an accurate forecast for the next month, we can tell you what trends we are seeing.
The temperature outlook shows above normal temperatures. That holds true for this first week as highs soar into the low 70s early on and low 80s near the end of the week.
The March precipitation outlook shows near normal rainfall. March is the 4th rainiest month of the year with a total of 3.30 inches on average. This would be beneficial and North Texas still deals with a drought as of the beginning on March.
