Updated noon on Saturday to add the Excessive Heat Warning
Mother Nature will remind us in a big way today and this weekend that it is still August in North Texas.
An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for the D-FW area as well as a good portion of North Texas. The rest of North Texas is under a Heat Advisory.
Areas under the Excessive Heat Warning could see afternoon heat index values climb as high as 115°. Heat Advisory areas will see afternoon heat index values between 105-110°
If you have outdoor plans, have a way to stay cool, stay hydrated, and take frequent breaks. Also remember the pets, elderly, and those without air conditioning. Heat like this can be dangerous if you are not careful.
There is also a chance for a few thunderstorms across the area mainly this evening into tonight. Not everyone will see rain, but keep an eye on the sky for any thunderstorms nearby. If you find yourself under a storm, expect heavy rain, lightning, and strong downburst winds area possible.
August heat will stick around through the end of the month, but the beginning of September could bring us some relief!
By the middle of next week, a front and a decent coverage of showers and storms looks like it will return to the area. Some storms on Tuesday into Wednesday could be strong to severe with a wind and hail threat. We'll continue to keep an eye on it!
