Will it rain in North Texas on Halloween? Here's what we're expecting (for now)

Rain has steered clear for most of North Texas this month. That looks to change just before the end of the month.

DALLAS — Be sure to download the WFAA app to track the latest forecast and get alerts from our team.

Let's dive into that with a look at what's to come weather-wise as we approach the end of the month. And what we can expect for Halloween!

Quick look ahead:

  • Breezy with warmer than normal temps the first half of the week
  • Cooler air and rain returns midweek
  • Multiple rounds of rain and possibly a severe threat

When does it cool down?

Temperatures will still be warmer than normal through Wednesday. But finally, some changes arrive this week! Ahead of the best chance for rain we have seen in over 5 weeks, winds will be high! Unfortunately, this keeps the fire danger threat elevated for the western half of North Texas until the area sees rain.

The pattern is shifting before the end of October and it'll last through early November. This brings back rain chances and temperatures that are closer to normal for this point in the fall. The 70s are likely for Halloween with that trend lasting through this upcoming weekend.

Rain chances return!?

Yes!

Like mentioned above, the overall pattern is shifting. This means the return of rain chances for North Texas as early as Tuesday, but the better coverage holds off until Wednesday. A few rounds of rain are looking likely through the weekend and early next week. We will focus on rain this week, for Halloween, and this weekend.

It won't rain all day on any given day and it won't rain everywhere every day. Every day's rain coverage and intensity will be different. We'll fine-tune coverage and timing as we get closer as rain chances could go up or down day to day.

Severe storms in North Texas?

Yes, there will be a chance for severe storms Wednesday evening into Wednesday night from DFW toward the Red River. Severe storms are not guaranteed for everyone as coverage will be low. The strongest storms will contain hail up to quarter-size and 50-60 mph wind gusts.  We'll continue to monitor the latest and bring you updates throughout the week.

In this timecast video, you can see the current thinking of the timing of the cold front and rain chances. There is some hope for North Texas trick-or-treaters! At this time, the best rain chance is Wednesday night into early Thursday (Halloween). This could leave trick-or-treat time on Halloween evening dry. Fingers crossed for the kids!
